North Decatur Elementary was the site of a four-team tourney. The young Chargers fifth-grade boys team cut down the nets as tourney champs while the sixth-grade squad finished runner-up.
North Decatur’s fifth-grade team members included David Bokelman, Andrew Hocker, Greg Krieger, Aaron Meyer, Brett Westerfeld, Clay Bedel, Austin Westerfeld, Brock Ricke and Josh Weintraut and are coached by Doug Westerfeld.
North’s fifth grade defeated Jac-Cen-Del 41-22 in the first game. Scoring for North was Josh Weintraut 16, Austin Westerfeld nine, Brock Ricke six, Greg Krieger four, Brett Westerfeld four and Andrew Hocker two.
North then won the title game 27-19 over Waldron. For North, Ricke scored eight points followed by Weintruat five, Clay Bedel four, A. Westerfeld four, David Bokelman two, Krieger two and B. Westerfeld two.
The Charger sixth-grade squad opened with a 46-13 victory over JCD. Scoring for North was John Hammersmith 17, Jason Kirchhoff four, Brandon Hocker two, Kevin Geis six, Zach Meyer five, Dylan Koors two, Sean Lecher two, Roger Volk three and Mitch Knecht five.
In the title game, North fell 35-26 to Waldron. Kirchhoff led North with 10 points followed by Volk six, Koors four, Hammersmith two, Geis two and Knecht two.
In other action, North’s sixth grade defeated Tri 33-28. Hammersmith led the way with 15 followed by Kirchhoff five, Volk five, Koors four, Meyer two and Geis two.
The sixth-grade Chargers defeated Milan 32-16. Scoring for North included Hammersmith 15, Kirchhoff two, Geis four, Meyer four, Lecher two, Volk two and Knecht three.
The fifth-grade Chargers knocked off South Decatur 32-20. Scoring for the Chargers was A. Westerfeld 20, Bedel four, Ricke four, Hocker two and Weintraut two.
For the young Cougars, Fry had six followed by Johannigman four, Able three, May two, Stone two, Taylor two and Kopplin one.
The fifth grade defeated Milan 39-17. Scoring for North included Ricke 14, Krieger seven, Weintraut six, Bedel two, Bokelman two, Hocker two, Meyer two, A. Westerfeld two and B. Westerfeld two.
