Modern Trends Home Extension Club



Modern Trends Home Extension Club met on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the home of Bonnie Evans at 7 P.M. with nine members present. President Bonnie Evans opened the meeting and Sharon Dennett let the members in saying the Creed and the Pledge to the Flag.

Thought of the Month "Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence, Calvin Coolridge, read by Marilyn Strasburger. Bonnie read a prayer from Prayer Line for devotions. Carol Firsich led the members in singing "Let Me Call You Sweetheart".

Kathryn Schoettmer, Secretary took Roll Call with members telling about Your First Date.

Kathryn then read the minutes from the last meeting and they were approved as read.

Ann Stagge gave a report on the Council Meeting, she advised the members that International Night would be at the St. Maurice Hall on April 14 and the cost was $8, money to be sent to Janet Bedel. And that 52 ladies were in attendance for Craft Days.

Marilyn Strasburger read an article about using the bar of soap in bed for leg cramps and how to control mosquitoes by using Listerine Mouth Wash.  Lucille Wenning gave a lesson on Saline Solution for sinus infections. Bonnie mentioned that White Windex is good for cleaning fabric on furniture and spots on carpet. Vice President Shirley Armstrong gave a lesson on Making and Keeping Healthy Relationships.

The club will have a garage sale this summer, more on this later.

Marlene Wolter was honored with a Valentine vase with flowers, candy and quarters for her birthday and everyone sang Happy Birthday to her.

Meeting closed with members saying the Club Prayer.

Game was played - each member wrote down something that no one knew about them and Bonnie read what each wrote and members guessed who wrote it. Everyone won a prize.

Next meeting will be March 18, at the home of Jean Pratt at 7 P.M.



Fifty Extension Homemakers Club



The Fifty Extension Homemakers Club met February 20, 2008 at the home of Isabelle Royse. Virginia Arnold, Linda Gommel, Lois Obermeyer, Helen and Jeanette Swango, Marjorie Wettering, Bertha Head, Isabelle and guest Marilyn Davis stuffed Puppy Pillows for Riley Hospital while we had a good time visiting. Then Isabelle served a delicious lunch. For our meeting, Isabelle’s devotions were entitled "The Bells" and consisted of many Bible verses with the words, "I AM." For Cultural Arts, she showed one of the many cushions she made for her family for Christmas that were made of picture transfers. Bertha read the Thought of the Month and Lois read some health facts for Health and Safety lesson. Virginia gave the Project Lesson, "Triglycerides" After our business session, we had dessert. Lucky number prize winners were Bertha and Lois.



Tree City Saddle Club



The Tree City Saddle Club held their annual awards night on Feb. 17, 2008 at the Decatur County Extension office.

The club gave recognition to member Julie Record for being named volunteer of the week by the Daily News. This was for her effort for organizing the North Decatur 40th anniversary celebration. Record has taught at North Decatur for the past 28 years.

Sarah Miller thanked the club members for supporting her nephew Cy Miller on the beautiful baby contest on the Live with Regis and Kelly show. Fellow member Janet Miller is the Grandmother of Cy.
