Night Extension Homemakers Club
The Night Extension Homemakers Club members have always said that if the weather conditions are not desirable, then we would probably not have our meeting. Well, this happened on Wednesday, with the snow and very cold temperatures. We just decided to be safe in our own homes, and not be traveling especially after dark for a meeting, and just canceled the meeting for the month. Plus, we already knew that some of our eleven members would not be able to attend anyway.
So, what we had on our agenda, and this includes the report on the recent extension homemaker's council meeting, will now be done on Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., at Catherine Mauer's home near St. Maurice, weather permitting again. Janet Bedel will be assisting. A lesson will be given then by one of our Janet's, and that will be determined by which one has the lesson info at that time, as several lessons were picked up at the local extension office at the recent council meeting. Safe traveling to everyone.
Alpha Alumnae
Nine members of the Alpha Alumnae Chapter of Delta Theta Tau Sorority met at the home of Betty Meyer for the February meeting, Vice President, Willa Ford, opened the meeting with the Delta Prayer. Sec., Treas., Dorine Bruns called roll and read the minutes of the December meeting.
A thank you was read from the United Fund. Members voted to buy a raffle ticket from the Arts and Cultural Council. A report on “Grit” was given by Willa Ford. There was a committee report on the coming combined spring party which will be held on April 14. The meeting was closed in usual form. The social time was enjoyed by all members playing cards. Prizes were to Kathryn Schoettmer and Lucille Wallpe. Snacks were served by the hostess. The next meeting will be on March 5 at the home of Lena Platt.
St. Maurice Extension Homemakers
The St. Maurice Extension Homemakers met on February 1 at the home of Eileen Fisse. Evelyn Kramer, president, presided at the meeting. Eileen Fisse read the poem, Anyway. All recited the club creed and the pledge to the flag. Happy Birthday was sung for Rosie Wenning and the group sang Let me call you sweetheart. Rose Wenning read the thought of the month.
Roll call was answered by seven members with a Valentine they had received from someone special. Eileen Fisse gave the secretary and treasurer’s reports. Rita Hellmich reported on the recent craft day in Jennings County. She gave a program on flower arranging and also told everyone about a pizza quiz since food day was also held.
Esther Wallpe gave the Health and Safety report on safety in the home. She reported to always have a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and use heat resistant oven mitts. Her report also reminded everyone to make sure they have working smoke detectors and use safety habits when moving heavy furniture and appliance. Eileen Fisse gave the lesson on looking on the bright side. The meeting was closed with the singing of the club prayer. Evelyn Kramer won the split-the-pot.
Fisse showed everyone how to make a patchwork butterfly pin. Everyone received a pin and the directions to make them. Each member made a Valentine for another member in the club. For cultural arts, Fisse told about the history of Boldt Castle, located on Heart Island, one of the Thousand Islands located on the St. Lawrence River near Alexandra Bay, New York. She showed photos she had taken of the Castle and the Islands.
The hostess served refreshments and Hellmich received the door prize. The next meeting will be March 1 at the home of Annie Ricke at 7 p.m.
