Earlier this month, employees of Greensburg’s CCI Thermal Technologies did their part to stave off hunger in the community via a large donation to Greensburg’s Human Services, Inc. (HSI) Food Pantry.
According to CCI receptionist and human resources representative Susy Patti, CCI donated $3,460 and 526 pounds of food to Human Services Dec. 19.
The employees’ generosity was matched by CCI corporate chairman and CEO Harold Roozen, who put up $2 for every dollar raised and an additional dollar for each pound of food donated.
Patti said HSI county director Jacque Denny was “very excited” to receive the donation. Denny told Patti the donation should help the organization make it through the winter season.
Denny estimated HSI would serve 500 families in December alone. HSI accepts donations of non-perishable food items and “gently used” clothing and toys year-round.
Charitable drives are nothing new to CCI Thermal, which annually offers a program of this sort each holiday season.
Patti said many in her company were not previously aware of the HSI food pantry’s existence prior to the charitable initiative.
The pantry was chosen after Patti and other CCI employees became aware of the large amount of families in Decatur County who regularly go without enough food.
“We were all surprised and wanted to help,” said Patti through an email.
Funds are raised through 50/50 drawings and charitable lunches over the course of the year, Patti said.
The food pantry received canned beans, corn, chili, soups and other items with long shelf-lives, in addition to boxed items such as corn muffin mix and several types of food condiments.
CCI Thermal Technologies currently employs 19 individuals, 16 of whom work in a full-time capacity.
