A campaign presentation followed by a building competition were the highlights of this year's 2012"Building a Better Tomorrow" campaign kickoff for the Decatur County United Fund (DCUF) recently.
Aspen Place Health Campus provided the setting, with picnic tables being the project to build.
According to Campaign Chairs Greg and Lizette Bell, the site was chosen because it will serve as 2012's first campaign presentation.
The competition was fierce. Companies participating included Decatur County Memorial Hospital, GECOM, KB Specialty Foods and MainSource Bank.
In addition, the United Fund Board and Aspen Place Health Campus participated in the competition. Each company provided four team members.
ÒOur theme this year is ÔBuilding a Better Tomorrow,'" Lizette said, noting the project's significance."The theme really addresses
how we're all working to build a better community Ñ even if it is one project at a time."
Bell, along with husband Greg, is working to raise $330,000 to benefit 21 agencies in 2013. According to the Bells, the agencies who will benefit from the United Fund dollars help"meet the human needs of young to old in a wide array of services," including groups like Meals on Wheels, Community Healthcare Clinic, YMCA, Girl Scouts, American Red Cross, Hospice and many more.
ÒThe completed picnic tables were donated to the Decatur County Youth Soccer Club, Westport Park, Westport Covered Bridge, the Decatur County Parks and Recreation Department and to Aspen Place Health Campus." noted Greg Bell."The competition was won by Aspen Place Health Campus employees.
According to Lizette, the campaign is at 7% of its goal or $24,711 of the $330,000 necessary. Thanks to the help of many individuals/companies,
the Bell's will continue to work towards reaching their goal.
Lizette noted,"Every donor's contribution is important. We have seen the impact United Fund has on people in our community. We feel it's important to spread the word that United Fund is a great organization to support as we continue ÔBuilding a Better Tomorrow' in Decatur County."
Joane Cunningham, DCUF executive director, shared,"Now is the time to consider your gift to the United Fund. The many programs/services provided by the 21 agencies are counting on you. This community is very giving and considerate of the needs within our community."
