Guilty plea made in stabbing of Columbus officer

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to charges that he stabbed a central Indiana police officer who was trying to arrest him.

Bartholomew County prosecutors dropped attempted murder charges against 38-year-old Carl Drucker II in exchange for his guilty pleas in court Monday to an aggravated battery charge in the stabbing and to being a habitual offender.

Authorities say Columbus Patrolman Greg Ross suffered a small knife wound during the December confrontation. Ross fired one shot at Drucker after the stabbing, hitting him once in the upper body.

A judge scheduled Drucker's sentencing for April 29. He faces six years to 20 years in prison for the battery conviction and 10 years to 30 years for being a habitual offender.

One killed in two-car crash this morning
The Decatur County Sheriff's Department is reporting one person was killed when a car collided with a box truck around 10 a.m. on State Road 3 South. The crash shutdown the highway until about 11:15.
