Maternal grandparents are Merrilyn Gronau of Greensburg and Kurt Max Gronau of Lake Bluff, Ill. Paternal grandparents are Carol and Robert Wooldridge of Evanston, He is the fifth- generation Wooldridge with Erwin as a middle name. Merritt is named for his late great-grandfather, Merritt Thornburg.
