Thomas W. Martin, 72


Thomas W. Martin, 72 of Shelbyville, Indiana passed away at 6:40 a.m. on August 13, 2008 at the Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

He was born in Crawfordsville, Indiana on February 5, 1936, he was the son of Harold O. “H.O.” and Anne Holdermann Martin. He married Carolyn S. Bagnall on April 26, 1964.

He had lived in the area for most of his life. He was a 1954 graduate of Shelbyville High School. He was an original partner and owner of Space and Sites LLC, formerly Pace Engineering, Inc. of Shelbyville as a land surveyor for 36 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Land Surveyors Society. He volunteered at the Shelbyville Animal Shelter from 1981 - 2000, served as President of the Shelbyville Animal Shelter Commission for many years and volunteered at the shelter on weekends and holidays with his wife. He enjoyed hot air ballooning.

He was an Air Force Veteran and received a Good Conduct Medal and Outstanding Unit Award.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Martin; one son, Thomas H. (Linda) Martin of Shelbyville; one sister, Margaret E. Geddes of Bosque Farms, NM and four cousins, Mary Frank of Indianapolis, Robert Small of Annapolis, MD, George Small of Rocklin, Ca and Jim Small of New Castle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, August 15 at the Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville. A memorial service will follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Bruce Harrell officiating. There will be a private burial service held at a later date.
