Jim Ryle, 73

Jim Ryle, 73 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on August 9, 2008 at the Columbus Hospice Center in Columbus.

He was born December 1, 1934 to Russell and Audrey (Starks) Ryle in Greensburg and was a graduate of Greensburg High School Class of 1953. In 1954, he married his first wife Shirley (Konzelman) Ryle and together had five children. Then in 1978 he was married to his second wife, Letha A. (Best) Ryle.

He was a self-employed Licensed Home Inspector and with being a former Mayor of Greensburg, was a member of many clubs and organizations, including St. Mary’s Catholic Church; The Home Builders Association; Knights of Columbus; Conservation Club; REMC Board; St. Mary’s Parish Council; and President of the Board of Directors for September Place.

He built and developed the Ryle Addition, coached CYO Basketball, and was in charge of the funding and building of Skybird Manor, September Place, and the Senior Center. He also served as City of Greensburg Councilman At Large.

He is survived by his wife Letha, former wife, Shirley and three daughters, Angela (Gary) Hersley, Nancy (Dan) Tower, and Cindy (Tony) Stuhrenberg; two sons, Bill (Ginger) Ryle and John (Yukari) Ryle; two sisters, Sara Smith and Annie Gerken; two brothers, David and Howard "Bud" Ryle; a step-daughter, Danette (Jerry) Kennedy Lusk and a step-son Rick Kennedy; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Barbara "Snookie" Phillips and two grandchildren, Brooke Hersley and Tracey Stuhrenberg.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m on Thursday, August 14 at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. A Rosary service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana, Inc. at Fund Development Office 2626 E. 17th Street Columbus, IN 47201.
