Greensburg — Well, it looks like winter is here - better now than in April or May.  

It seems early, but we are going to give you some dates for the fair. This year the county fair will be Thursday, July 12 through Thursday July 19.  This will lead to some changes as to when we will enter open-class exhibits.

Open-class crafts will be entered from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12 followed by judging at noon.

Open class flowers and garden will be entered on Friday, July 13 from, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by judging at noon.

The open-class foods and food preservation will be entered from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, July 16 followed by judging at noon. You may want to cut this out and save it for later.  It will also be in the next newsletter from the Extension office.

I will start giving you some of the craft classes so you can be working on your entries.

Class 1 - Antique containers (like coffee cans, spice cans, baking powder, etc.) (No taller than 12 inches) Must have card with information about container.

At time of entry, the entrant will be asked to identify 10 pages (one page is one side) to be judged and which page they would like to be displayed.

Class 1 - Vacation album

Class 2 - Family album

Class 3 - Babies, up to 2 years

Class 4 - Youth album (3 years old and older)

Class 5 - Album done by a youth 18 years and under

Class 6 - Other

Collections

Display no larger than 22 by 28 inches

Class 1 - Postcard, greeting cards, etc. (paper)

Class 2 - Tea cups, salt and pepper, buttons, etc.

Also Janet Bedel is wanting help to cut and sew puppy pillows.  If you can help even for a short time please call her at 812-663-4563.  You need some fabric and a scissors.

Recipes:

Baked Pork Chop Casserole

6 pork chops

salt and pepper to taste

3 peeled uncooked sweet potatoes, cut in chunks

2 onions, sliced thinly

1 6 oz.. - can frozen orange juice concentrate

1/2 c. brown sugar

4 whole cloves

Season chop and brown in small amount of oil.  Place in baking dish and place sweet potatoes around chops, cover with onion slices, orange juice and brown sugar and cloves.  Bake covered at 350 degrees for 45 min.  Remove cover and bake 15 min longer or until done.

Best Brownies

Melt 2 sticks  margarine add 10 T. cocoa.  Then add 2 cups sugar and beat well

Add: 4 eggs (beaten)

1 1/2c. flour

dash of salt

Mix well and stir in nuts if desired.  Spread  in a 9 x 13 greased pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
