Preparing for district day, fair on horizon

Greensburg — I know I just wrote the column last week, but wanted to let you know that Alice Woodhull had back surgery last week and got along fine, but I am sure she would like to hear from you if you would like to send her a note or card.

I have one announcement, the spring district day will be March 20 at Aurora. Reservations are due to Janet Bedel by March 6. The cost is $10.

Well, back to more fair classes. When your club meets this month or next you can let me know when your club wants

wants to watch the building and also what classes you would like to help enter.

 

Needlework

Class 1 - Embroidered picture(framed)

Class 2 - Other hand-embroidered items

Class 3 - Machine embroidered items

Class 4 - Counted Cross Stitch, (11 by 14 inch and larger) Doesn't include matt and frame)

Class 5 - Counted Cross Stitch (smaller than 11 by 14 inch) (Doesn't include matt and frame)

Class 6 - Any other needlework



Quilts

Class 1 - Appliqued, cross-stitched, or embroidered, made by entrant(hand quilted)

Class 2 - Pieced(hand quilted) made by entrant

Class 3 - Appliqued, pieced (machine quilted by someone else) made by entrant

Class 4 - Hand quilted factory printed fabic completed item

Class 5 - Quilted wall hanging (machine or hand quilted)

Class 6 - Baby quilts

Class 7 - Other hand quilted item

Class 8 - Other machine quilted item

 

Sewing

Class 1 - adults a. adult dress b. separates - jacket, slacks, skirt, vest, etc. c. other adult item

Class 2 - children a. children's dress-up, including formal wear

Class 4- sewing for the home

Class 5 - purchased garment with added embellishments

Some recipies for Lent

Deviled Eggs

8 hard-boiled eggs

1/4 c. minced smoked salmon

2 T. low fat mayonnaise

1 T. lemon juice

1 T. honey mustard

1 T. minced fresh kill or 1/2 tsp. dried dill weed

salt and pepper to taste

Peel and carefully slice eggs in half lengthwise and remove yolk. Mash yolks with fork and remaining ingredients and mix well. Using a small spoon fill centers of eggs with mixture and sprinkle with paprika if desired. Cover with plastic and refrigerate for 1 hour before serving



Sandwich spread

2 avacado

1 T. extra virgin olive oil

1 med. sweet onion, finely chopped

5 - 6 cherry tomatoes ,finely chopped

salt and pepper to taste

Put avocados in food processor and add oil and then add remaining ingredients. Refrigerate, can be used as a sandwich spread or on crackers



Cheesy Tuna Noodle Casserole

1 16 oz. bag California blend frozen vegetables

1 pkg. deluxe macaroni and cheese dinner made with 2 percent milk

3/4 cl fat free milk

1/4 cl reduced fat Italian dressing

2 6oz. cans tunna, drained

1 c. shredded reduced fat cheese

Cook macaroni. Quickly thaw and drain vegetables. Combine macaroni and vegetables. Add cheese sauce, milk and dressing and tuna and 1/2 c. cheese. Put in casserole and and bake covered for 35 min. in 350 degree oven; uncover add remaining cheese and bake 3 or 4 min longer.
