Greensburg —
Members of the North Decatur Junior High FFA Chapter recently won the Indiana State Dairy Foods championship.
Team members Rosanna Schwartz, Addison Tomson, Kayleigh Krieger, and Jaelyn Matthews placed first in the junior high division.
A second junior high team from North Decatur finished right behind them, in second place. Those members were Devin Nobbe, Jacob Phillips, Adam Hartman, and Brandon Hellmich. A total of 10 teams from throughout the state competed in the junior high division. Schwartz led the team by placing 1st individually in the contest.
In the high school division a team consisting of Hannah Andrews, Logan Hobbs, Emily Scott and Nicole Scott placed 10th out of the 49 high school teams competing. Andrews led the team by placing 23rd out of the 195 high school members from throughout the state competing.
The contest, which was held at Purdue University Jan. 28, requires students to evaluate dairy products for their characteristics and quality.
Contest sections include cheese identification, problem solving, milking machine part evaluation, California Mastitis Testing, and milk flavor evaluation. In addition, the contestants also take a 40-question quiz over dairy food products and the dairy industry.

Ashley Hawkins, a 2012 graduate of South Decatur High School FFA, and Scott Denton, a 2012 graduate of Greensburg FFA, have been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by Don Meyer Ford and Ford Motor Company.
