The North Decatur FFA Chapter held its annual member awards banquet last month. Over 200 FFA members, parents, and special guests attended the event which was held in the North Decatur cafeteria.
Jacob Mattox, 2011 South Decatur graduate and current Indiana State FFA Southern Region Vice President, was the keynote speaker on the evening.
Following Jacob's presentation and a meal featuring smoked pork chops the awards were given out. Award categories included Greenhand degrees, Chapter degrees, Hoosier degrees, Career Development Events, Leadership contests, citrus sales awards, retiring officer recognition, senior recognition, scholarship presentations, community service project participants, and "Star" Awards.
Major award winners included: Star Greenhand, Kyle Fogle; Bent Fence Post Award, Corden Simmonds; Stars in Agricultural Placement, Katelin Schomber and Jeremiah Fry; Florida Fruit Association Scholarships, Michelle Trenkamp and Katelin Schomber; Stewart Seeds Scholarships, Michelle Trenkamp and Katelin Schomber; North Decatur FFA scholarships, Julia Ricke and Ashley Schwering; Top citrus sales award, Claire Smith. The evening concluded with the installation of the 2012-2012 officer team of Kaleb Kramer, president; Claire Smith, vice-president; Kelsey Johnson, secretary; Cindy Krieger, treasurer; Veronica Yager, reporter; Grant Ricke, Sentinel; and Justin Geis, student advisor.
