Lebanon —
The Indiana State 4-H Poultry Workshop was held Jan. 5, 2013 at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds in Lebanon.
Youth from Decatur County who attended were Emma and Jane Spreckelson, Christopher and Addie Gauck, Alden Westhafer and Daniel Mapes.
Chaperones were Mike Spreckelson and Steve and Kimmie Gauck.
The workshop presentations were titled as “Basics of Judging Large Fowl Chickens,” “All About Bantams: Different Classes and More,” “Poultry Show Supplies,” “Judging Exhibition Poultry,” “Raising Healthy Poultry from Hatch to Show,” “Judging Meat Bird Chickens,” and “Egg Layer Basics.” There was also a question and answer session.
Many poultry judges gave presentations so the youth could interact and ask questions.
The 4-H’ers also had an opportunity to judge several breeds.
Exhibition quality birds were available for purchase, several of which made their way back to Decatur County.
4-H is open to any Decatur County youth between third and 12th grade.
If interested, see the Extension Office for details.
