Greensburg —
GREENSBURG - Livestock showmanship is nothing new to 14-year-old Sammi Brewsaugh.
A six-year 4-H veteran, the North Decatur High School freshman earned a Reserve Champion ribbon and trophy in July's Tom Swain showmanship contest.
Following that success, Sammi made an impression at the Indiana State Fair recently, earning top honors for three market lambs. Sammi's champions are of the Natural Color, Shropshire and Oxford breeds. The Oxford championship was earned via Sammi's showmanship.
As a result of her trio of winning animals, Sammi has earned the right to participate in the Indiana State Fair's Sale of Champions, taking place at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis. Sammi intends to put her champion Natural Color lamb up for sale at the event.
Scott Brewsaugh, Sammi's father, told the Daily News he expects his daughter to be the 15th or 16th participant at the sale this weekend. Sammi placed fifth overall in the competition, which saw approximately 800 different market lambs of various breeds exhibited.
Sammi has locally made her mark on the 4-H program by specializing in showmanship of market lambs and market goats.
